Green Cave

After Punta dell’Arcera continue for the western side of the island. Here, where the seabed falls to a depth of 50-60 meters, you pass through Cala del Rio, named after the existence in the past of a stream that started from Mount Solaro, ran along the slopes until the cove.

The depth of the sandy seabed is about 4-5 meters and on the south side there are a series of connecting tunnels that are difficult to visit because of the sea currents.

Past the well-known coves of Mesola, Tombosiello and Limmo, where you can admire the famous lighthouse of Punta Carena, continue towards Cala Marmolata, a stretch rich in inlets and caves, visitable with small boats or swimming, as the caves of the Three Sisters, communicating with each other, the Grotto della Vela and the Grotta dei Santi, so called for the presence inside rocks similar to human figures in prayer. You then arrive at the most famous of the side: the Green Cave. The latter is so named for its emerald green color that reflects along the walls and the rocky vault.
