Saint Sophia

In the historic center of Anacapri, after having crossed the stretch of Via Giuseppe Orlandi, you arrive at Piazza Diaz, Delicious with its red brick floor and ceramic benches decorated by local artist Sergio Rubino that tell the story of anacapresi traditions. Here is the most important and central church of Anacapri dedicated to Santa Sofia, on the site where once stood the ancient Church of San Carlo and replaced the old parish of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli.

Built in the 16th century, the church stands out for its baroque façade lines and the ancient bell tower completed in the 18th century.

The interior, recently restored, is divided into a central nave with barrel vault while the two sides have classic vaults and end with two chapels dedicated to Saint Anthony and Madonna del Buon Consiglio.
Just around the church, and its asymmetrical domes, was born the first town of Anacapri and it is here, even today, that the various generations love to meet.
