Interview with Michela De Martino, vice president of the association That’s Amore Capri

The air is vibrant with expectations and curiosity as one follows the appointments of the most anticipated kermesse in Capri. That’s Amore is the festival that brings to the island high-profile events including star dinners, entertainment and culture. And among the personalities who every year work to ensure the success of this initiative there is one of the most important entrepreneurs in Capri, Michela De Martino, owner, together with her uncle Lino and his sister Arianna, of the iconic Da Paolino.

The restaurant is renowned all over the world; even many VIPs choose it as a destination during their holidays in Capri: the last was the famous singer Dua Lipa, guest of the restaurant just a few nights ago. Michela De Martino is one of the founding members of the event, as well as one of the most active members and, since this year, has also taken on the role of vice president of the event.

What is the greatest satisfaction of dedicating your time and energy to That’s Amore Capri?

“One of the things I care most about in working on the show is being able to propose events every year with a higher profile. Since its inception, in fact, That’s Amore Capri, in addition to the important aspect of solidarity, which is manifested in the collaboration with the foundation Soleterre, aimed to bring Capri to the attention of all as a place where it is possible to realize events in the name of great entertainment and the promotion of culture in all its facets. For this reason, within the event, there are so different events: initiatives dedicated to haute cuisine are combined with those related to the promotion and enhancement of the territory, as the guide for kids designed by Francesco De Angelis of the restaurant La Capannina which, among other things, we are proud to announce the second edition coming out next year. The crowning glory, then, always remains the event at the Certosa di San Giacomo“.

You are one of the founding members of the show, which you follow from the first year. What is your assessment of That’s Amore Capri to date? How has it changed over time?

“We members are all very happy with what we have created around this event. The last years the fair ended in October, and the final event was precisely the dinner that is held at the restaurant Da Paolino; from this year, however, the fair will last from April to December. We wanted to do this in order to increase, especially in the months of less tourist affluence, the events that take place on the island, because we believe in the importance of offering Capri a programme of cultural events and entertainment that will encourage people to come and visit us also in spring and autumn”.

What else do you think can be done to make That’s Love Capri bigger and more important for the island?

“Currently the fair is experiencing an important moment, and we members and organizers have to deal with a growth that has gone far beyond expectations. But in us there is the will to increase the number of events, especially in months such as April, November and December, to give also the chance to experience the island in a more meaningful way. The goal is to continue on the road traveled until now and improve more and more, to bring to the territory increasingly important initiatives and be up to the great demand of the public events. The challenge, not easy, is to bring a large number of people to paid initiatives, and it is only by maintaining high quality that we can guarantee us a loyal public who follows us. Finally, I would like to personally thank our main sponsor Hyundai, the sponsors and our media partners, Forbes and L’Espresso, who have allowed us a wide and important dissemination of our review, as Capri deserves”.
