A month of faith, devotion, history, and traditions. May is, by definition, the month of San Costanzo in Capri, the patron saint and protector of the island.
The feast day falls on May 14, which is the highlight of the celebrations, including a morning mass led by Bishop Monsignor Francesco Alfano and the afternoon procession through the streets of the town, ending at Marina Grande. The celebrations begin on May 6 with the enthronement of the statue and the raising of the picture in Piazzetta.
Over the years, the festivity has lost some of its vigor and participation, but it remains a deeply meaningful event for the local population. The celebrations are organized by the parishes, along with the local congregations, and with the valuable role of the San Costanzo committee, which is also responsible for organizing the porters who carry the bronze bust of the patron saint during the processions (in addition to the May 14 procession, a second one is scheduled the following Sunday for the return from Marina Grande to Capri center).
There are also moments of entertainment and social gathering, with the fair (the typical stalls) at Marina Grande, children’s games, and a final live music performance in Piazzetta, which this year will feature the local group Los Truffaldinos.
Below is the poster with the full program.
