Chiesa di
Santa Sofia

In the historic center of Anacapri, after having covered the stretch of via Giuseppe Orlandi, you arrive in Piazza Diaz, delightful with its red brick floor and majolica ceramic benches decorated by the local artist Sergio Rubino that tell the story of traditions anacapri. Here is the most important and central church of Anacapri dedicated to Santa Sofia, on the site where the ancient Church of San Carlo once stood and replaced the ancient parish of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli.

Built in the 16th century, the church stands out for its baroque lines of the facade and the ancient bell tower completed in the 18th century.

The interior, recently restored, is divided into a central nave with a barrel vault while the two side ones have classic ribbed vaults and end with two chapels dedicated to St. Anthony and the Madonna del Buon Consiglio.

Right around the church, and its asymmetrical domes, the first town of Anacapri was born and it is here, even today, that the various generations love to meet.
