Unusual Walks

Cetrella

Cetrella, a stop for connoisseurs and nature lovers. You reach Monte Solaro by chairlift, and then go down the path, into the woods, or walk along via Capodimonte, until via Monte Solaro begins on the right, from which the fairly easy path joins. The other two roads recommended for trekking lovers are the Passetiello path and the Angola pass.

For the less experienced it is advisable to be accompanied by a guide. Let’s take the climb from Via Monte Solaro as a reference. Almost at the end, we arrive at Monte Cappello, dominated by an iron cross, visible from the center of Anacapri.

Continuing, you pass in front of the Mackenzie house, which takes its name from the writer who used to stay in the last century and created with his friend gardener Domenico Ruggiero a path that led from Monte Solaro to the sea. Now, the structure is owned by the Centro Caprense Ignazio Cerio but is on loan for use to the Friends of Cetrella association, which is very active in the enhancement and defense of the territory and in the defense of fires. A few meters later, the path opens up and you arrive at the Cetrella valley. Here, in addition to the breathtaking landscape, there is a disused solar observatory and, climbing a few stairs,

you reach the church of Santa Maria a Cetrella, perfectly set in the rocky wall overlooking the eastern side of the island.
