Anacapri is a magical place that blends the beauty of the island of Capri with a more welcoming and familiar dimension, featuring not only luxury tourism but also small artisanal and entrepreneurial realities. That’s why, on Thursday, July 4th, Anacapri is preparing to light up with color and light for the much-anticipated White Night, an event that brings together residents and tourists in a grand celebration of art, music, and culture. Telling us about it is Gelsomina Maresca, president of Ascom Anacapri.
“The White Night of Anacapri, now in its fifth edition, is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the unique and enchanting atmosphere of the island, through its characteristic streets and picturesque views of the sea. All the businesses in the historic center will remain open, from Bar Grotta Azzurra to Piazza Vittoria. Its streets will turn into an open-air stage, where street artists, musicians, and performers will enchant the audience with their performances: in short, 4 hours of music and fun await you!”
The creativity that has always inspired the island’s visitors will emerge through a series of initiatives: “The artisans will take to the streets to showcase their creations, occupying specific spots. The Red House Museum will stay open until 11 PM, giving participants the chance to visit this gem of Anacapri, while the Capri in Arte Association will curate an exhibition in Piazza Celio. There will also be theatrical performances, drawing and painting workshops…”
Ample space at the White Night of Anacapri will be given to gastronomy: “We asked businesses to use the street food formula: in the public space in front of them, they can sell delicacies to enjoy along the way. Each will offer something different, so visitors can taste the island’s delicacies during their walk through the historic center. Specific stands will also sell crepes, candies, and games.”
The aim of the evening is to enhance the commercial activities of the center; to do so, one of the organized events will be a traveling fashion show: boys and girls from Anacapri will wear clothes from the clothing stores in the historic center.
At 7 PM, the inauguration ceremony of the Anacapri goat bell will take place in Piazza Celio. The event is promoted and organized by Ascom Anacapri, with the sponsorship of the municipality of Anacapri. The evening will be sponsored by the Sella and Mosca winery.
“The purpose of this initiative is twofold: on one hand, there is the commercial aspect, as we want to bring the streets of Anacapri to life and give visibility to its shopkeepers; on the other, we want to allow tourists to discover the traditions, craftsmanship, and culinary habits of the other half of the island.”
Since the first edition in 2020, organized when COVID-19 containment measures were still in place, the event has had excellent participation; that edition became the symbol of all those who wanted, after months of forced closures, to return to the streets and rediscover the beauty of being together. Today this event acquires a new, important meaning: it is a way to show that the commercial activities of Anacapri are present, and that, to work, they need to keep the town alive.
