Chiesa di
Santa Maria di Costantinopoli

The Church, built in the 11th century, is the oldest church in Anacapri and has the characteristic appearance of rural churches, with its simple facade and bell gable. Along the road that leads to the Migliera viewpoint you arrive in the old Li Curti district (the origin of the name refers to the houses with courtyard, a characteristic of the place), over time the name of the district has changed to Catena due to the devotion to Madonna to free the islanders prisoners of the Turks from the “chains”.

Here, the church gate opens onto a romantic cypress-lined avenue and a garden that once served as a cemetery.

The interior is simple, characterized by a single nave with a masonry pulpit on the right and a cross vault on the ceiling.

Until 1510, the year in which the church of Santa Sofia was finished, the church played the role of the first parish of Anacapri.
